The Kenylang Smart City’s Convention Centre and Recreation Centre (CCRC) has been crowned as a winner at the prestigious International Property Awards in a glittering ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Kenyalang Smart City’s CCRC was awarded a 5-Star Rating when winning the Mixed Use Architecture category for Malaysia and was also certified for qualifying for the Mixed Use Architecture category for the Asia Pacific region.
The distinguished award comes just days after Deputy Premier YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian presided over the unveiling of the Kenyalang Smart City masterplan in front of an audience of local and international captains of industries.
“Recognition for the Kenyalang Smart City at the International Property Awards franks the support for the project by the Sarawak Government and from the Miri community,” said Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of Teo A. Khing Design Consultants (TAK).
“The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg said in his speech at the KSC Summit that the Kenyalang Smart City is foundational to the future his Administration wants to shape in Sarawak. This award is testament that Miri and Sarawak are being presented with the very best facilities to support the community.”
The International Property Awards are recognized as the world’s most prestigious property awards and this year attracted more than 1,000 participants from ASEAN, China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand across varying categories.
These awards celebrate the highest level of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry as judged by an international panel of experts.
Accepting the awards on behalf of TAK were its Senior Advisor, Ng Chee Choy, and Design Director, Hairul Nizar Bin Tamaddun. TAK and its designs have been awarded many times over the years with more recent awards including:
- AIM Awards (Latin America and Caribbean) for Pearl of the Caribbean masterplan
- 5-Star winner Best International Leisure Activity Architecture for Asia Pacific Region at the International Property Awards
- Five-time winner at the Asia Pacific Property Awards
- World Luxury Hotel Awards
- 4-time winner at the Arabian Property Awards
The Kenyalang Smart City is a 543-acre integrated development that presents a bespoke vision for the future of Miri and the wider East Malaysia.
Tourism Minister, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, was unequivocal in his support of the impact the development can have on Sarawak’s tourism industry, telling the audience at the Kenyalang Smart City Summit that “Kenyalang Smart City will definitely have a very big impact on tourism as Miri is so ideally situated, with Mulu National Park as one of the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites.”
YB Adam Yii Siew Sang, Mayor of Miri City, was equally emphatic in his support of the project at large and, in particular, elements including its now award winning CCRC: “Miri City is in dire need of a proper convention centre in order to host bigger events. Therefore, the convention centre included in the Kenyalang Smart City development project is much welcomed.”
