At a glittery ceremony in Kuching, Ar. Teo Ah Khing was awarded the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association’s (Sheda) at its 2023 Awards Night.

The Chairman of TAK Group of Companies, which includes corporations Imasa Dinasti Sdn. Bhd. and Teo A. Khing Design Consultants (TAK), was presented with this unique honour by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Premier of Sarawak.

Teo, a native Sarawakian, was selected by Sheda’s judging panel on the score of three decades of high achievement locally in Sarawak, nationally across Malaysia and internationally.

“As a developer, a Lifetime Achievement Award winner has walked the mile, chosen the road less travelled, explored uncharted territories, and despite international competition, has achieved tremendous success in his property consultancy and property development ventures overseas,” said Angie Kueh, Madam Chair of Sheda Excellence Awards 2023 and Sheda Secretary General.

“The recognition of Teo’s achievements served as a dual purpose for Sheda, extending beyond a mere accolade. The award sends a powerful message to Sarawakians abroad, encouraging them to return home.

“Sarawak welcomes you home. With that, we welcome Mr Teo Ah Khing home to Sarawak, and hopefully, this would be the beginning of many Sarawakians returning home.”

Teo was born in Kuching, raised in Miri and launched TAK in 1993. The company established itself with key projects across Kuching, Miri and Bintulu before being awarded the opportunity to masterplan Malaysia’s Federal Administration in Putrajaya.

Putrajaya was the first project of an international scale Teo had undertaken with TAK but it was not to be the last. Over the ensuing three decades, with TAK, he has master planned an expansive array of projects across the Middle East, South East Asia, China, Europe, Australia and the Caribbean and TAK has been recognized for its sustainability, environmental sensitivity, sophistication and functional longevity.

“As a passionate Sarawakian, it is a great honour to be recognized by Sheda in this manner,” said Teo whose local projects include Miri City Fan, Sarawak Timber Association Building, Parkcity Everly Hotel (Bintulu), Brighton Condominium (Miri), Hock Lee Centre (Kuching) and the Curtin University Malaysia Extension (Miri).

“After 30 years, I am also proud that we are coming home to make a further contribution to the State with a new project in 2024 called Curtin Smart City.

“We hope to be able to share more news about the benefits this will bring to Sarawakians and to the State over the coming weeks and months.”
