The Winston Trim Training Programme (WTTP) is a social responsibility initiative of the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club that is designed to provide vocational opportunities for Saint Lucians in the new horse racing industry.

WTTP was established ahead of the commencement of horse racing on the island nation and made an immediate positive impact in communities around the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club.

The engagement of internationally experienced mentors immediately provided deep grounding for motivated Saint Lucians to be trained and provided with work opportunities within the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club. The initial graduates played lead roles in the successful hosting of the 2019 CECF Saint Lucia and its showpiece Pitons Cup. The event was watched by an audience of in excess of 500,000 viewers.

“The inherent motivation for bringing thoroughbred horse racing to Saint Lucia was always more than exposing a wonderfully exciting sport to the people of Saint Lucia. The intrinsic benefits associated with education, job creation, economic stimulation throughout local communities and the strengthening of community were of paramount importance,” said Eden Harrington, Director of the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club.

“We believe in the value of education and training to equip people with skillsets so they can take up new job opportunities that will be created in and around the thoroughbred industry we are establishing and managing in Saint Lucia. We also value the intangible benefits of increasing self-esteem & improving community wellbeing.”

WTTP is named in honour of Winston Trim, a native Saint Lucian who was a member of RSLTC and who always dreamt of building a thoroughbred industry for his nation so young men and women who shared his passion could be trained and educated and given a vocation in the field they love. Sadly, Winston passed in 2017 but he remains an unwavering force of energy and his purpose remains a guiding light at our club.
